Warming up a home interior is for most people almost a reflex action – just hit this button or turn up this dial. There are other ways though, which could be just as handy but with other advantages. You can heat your house, your local school or business in an affordable manner by installing solar power, which is rather easy to do. The onset of winter does not mean no solar energy – many ways exist to capture the energy of the sun even then. A solar source like a sun room is necessary, which not only attracts sunshine but also traps the heat within it.
Floor to ceiling glass panels are utilized to create a sun room, which is normally affixed to the home. In order to get the whole effect of the heat, these rooms are typically located so that they are facing the morning sun. Everything in the room will become heated by the sun rays as the sun shines through the glass into the room. The heat isn’t going to escape through the glass, and stays inside the room. The heating is rather efficient so long as the room is made properly, and of course it is entirely natural.
Thermal mass, which holds the heat once it’s been absorbed, is another of several other types of solar heating. This method amasses heat when the sun is shining, which is then available for distribution when the sun goes down. One other natural solar heating and ventilation system is the trombe wall, which retains the heat by means of air channels. A thermal mass and a glass object are placed to face the sun, and the heat is captured between the two. The wall radiates the heat, which is distributed through vents after being retained within this wall. A transpired collector is one other one based on a sun-facing wall, which uses the absorbed sunshine to heat up the air as it enters the ventilation system.
A building could be ventilated by using a solar cooling system. This ingenious method features a steam engine run by solar with an attached cooling device. This collects the heat from the steam and transforms it to ice. A different type of solar ventilation system, made from a thermal mass that has been hollowed out, is the solar chimney. Air within the chimney is heated and as it goes up it is distributed to where it is needed. As you can see there are several ways that businesses and houses can be warmed. These are just some of the ways where you can use the sun’s heat together with natural materials. Not one of them were using non-renewable resources to create artificial heating.
If you would like to stop using non-renewable resources to warm your residence, the examples provided earlier should provide food for thought. The sun powers them all. You may need to reside in a location where the sun shines on a consistent basis to completely use any of these systems. We all require a heat source to warm our homes with.
