Remember when you could shut out all the air pollution and other rubbish just by going inside of your own home and closing the door? When you’re in your own house, you get to control the level of quality of the air you breathe. Or is it? Sadly, there are all sorts of things that can enter your house and raise the likelihood of your coming down with asthma or respiratory issues. This is to some extent because our houses are actually more air tight–our windows and walls are sealed so that they can keep the heating and cooling costs low. Sadly, those energy cost savings are elevating the pollutants in the air of our home. Here are a number of the actions you can take to keep your air within your house as healthy as possible.

Shoes Off

Take your footwear off outside the house, if possible. If not, kick them off within the front entrance to your house. When you go walking around out of your house–even in indoor areas like hospitals and shopping centers, your shoes pick things up. The soles of your boots and shoes get covered in mildew, chemical compounds, bacteria, filth and dust. When you carry these kinds of things into your house, it gets into your floor coverings and floor coverings. Then a person kick it up once more if you walk back over it. Instead of staying in the flooring it goes back up into the airflow and you improve your likelihood of breathing it in. This risk gets decreased quite a bit when you leave your shoes outside or in the entryway of the house.

Don’t Grab Your Dry Cleaning Right Away

Allow the cleaner to keep it for a day or two. Garments which has just been dry cleaned is saturated with chemicals that are incredibly harmful. Some of them have been linked to cancer and neurological damage. Before you bring your clothes home you need to make sure that they are completely dry. If your clothing isn’t entirely dry, you risk inhaling those same substances and, perhaps, getting them on your skin. You could also try to look for a dry cleaner that uses nonharmful and environmentally cleaning techniques.

Proper Ventilation

Make sure you ventilate your home! We understand that you put in those new windows because you sought better control over your home’s temperature. At the same time, leaving the windows shut all the time requires you to continue inhaling all of the crap that gets kicked up every day. Think about the dust mites that get stirred up when you vacuum and dust. The smoke and fumes that permeate the house if you cook on the stove or with your oven don’t ever dissipate. Your shower’s steam can seep into your walls which will cause mold to form which you then breathe in and get sick from. Your fans need to get switched on. Open your windows. Give the kicked up junk an opportunity to break free.

You can make the house healthier using a lot of different methods. Remember, coming home doesn’t mean that you have shut out the issues of the universe in a physical sense. Take a few actions to make your place a pollution free zone.
